President's Message
“When I see children dancing at Rath Yatra or elders sharing stories over pakhala, I am reminded why we built this community—to belong.”
Dear friends and families,
When my family and I moved to Northeast Florida, we missed the sounds and smells of home—the bhajans before Rath Yatra, the laughter at a Banabhoji picnic, hearing Odia in everyday conversation. We are not alone in that feeling. That is why ଆମ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ପରିବାର exists: so no one has to celebrate, grieve, or grow up without their culture nearby.
Today, OSNEF is a circle of volunteers—parents, professionals, students, and elders—who plan festivals together, mentor youth, and show up for one another. Whether you have lived here for decades or arrived last month, you belong here. You do not need to speak perfect Odia. You only need an open heart.
This year we are focused on:
- Keeping festivals alive — Rath Yatra, Diwali, Banabhoji, Anand Bazar, and the gatherings in between
- Investing in youth — language, dance, music, and leadership opportunities
- Strengthening seva — supporting families and partnering with our wider Jacksonville community
I invite you to introduce yourself at our next event, volunteer for a small shift, or simply reply to this note through our contact page. Every hand helps, and every story matters.
Thank you for trusting us with a piece of your family’s journey. I hope to meet you soon—perhaps over prasāda, under the Florida sun, with Odia music in the background.
With warmth and gratitude,
Sasikant Nayak
President, Odia Society of Northeast Florida (OSNEF)
